
The Board covers all rivers which flow into the Forth Estuary and Firth of Forth. This includes the Rivers Biel, Tyne, Esk, Water of Leith, Almond, Avon, Carron, Forth, Teith, Allan, Devon, Black Devon, Leven and all coastal burns.

As set out in the Salmon Fisheries (Scotland) Act 1868
“1st. That the Limits of the District of the River-Forth shall be—on the North, Fife Ness ; on the South, the Boundary between the Counties of Haddington and of Berwick ; and that the District shall consist of the Portions of the Sea Coast and the Estuary, and the River, contained between the said Points.”

“salmon” means all fish of the species Salmo salar and migratory fish of the
species Salmo trutta and commonly known as salmon and sea trout respectively or
any part of any such fish as defined by the Salmon Fisheries (Scotland) Act 1868 amended to the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 2003.

Fishery – The areas where rod and line & legal netting can take place. Fisheries exist on all rivers within the Forth with some active and some inactive.

A board of proprietors who are elected every three years by the other fishery proprietors within the District together with anglers representatives. The elections and how they should be carried out are outlined within the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 2003.

The Board, fishery owners and partners protect the Forth fishery (rivers) in a variety of ways to benefit salmon and sea trout.

Forth Rivers Trust
The Forth Rivers Trust is an environmental charity with an aim to improve the rivers in and around the Forth for the benefit of wildlife and communities. The Board works closely with the Trust to deliver its statutory duties but also improve the Forth District.
