The Deanston (Lanrick) Weir Fish pass has been re-opened following on from the maintenance works. There is still some of the temporary works on the Weir but the water levels too high to remove all the bags. These will be attended to on Monday.
Our main actions for the last fortnight have been to get the pass re-opened as quickly as possible to mitigate any damage to the fishery. That has required daily attendance by the Board’s Superintendent, which has had to be undertaken above and beyond his normal duties.
Discussions with SEPA who regulate the weir (impoundment) and the requirements associated with that including the fish pass have started and these will now be the priority to ensure that in the future this is managed properly. The pass does need to be maintained and that is the operators responsibility; it is SEPAs responsibility to ensure this is done with least damage to the fishery and that the conditions on the CAR licence are properly adhered to. The Forth DSFB is asking why these conditions are not in place.
Thanks to Forth Valley Police Division for their support.
